The Water Resources Authority has prioritized leveraging technology to enhance sustainable management of water resources in its five years corporate strategy.  This is being actualized through:

·       Use of telemetry water resources monitoring stations that collect and transmit water resources data on real time for climatic, rivers and groundwater monitoring;

·       Development of the Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) system for the receiving, storage, retrieval and analysis of water abstraction data in real time, from smart meters installed at abstraction points (boreholes, intakes, effluent discharge points;

·       Development implementation of a Centralized Smart Meter Billing Integration Platform, accessible at https://meter.wra.go.ke; a system which provides a single, authoritative platform through which smart meter data is transmitted directly to WRA for billing and regulatory purposes.

·       Development of a self-service Customer Mobile application to enable customers conveniently access services from the comfort of their phones. The App’s features make it easy to pay water use charges instantly, submit meter readings, access bills, statements and usage history from the phone. Customers can also be able to apply for permits directly through the app. The Mobile application will connect the meters with WRA servers, aid in generating water use bills. The data on water abstraction will guide charges for water use.
