KIMANA WETLAND TREE PLANTING

WRA Participated in Tree Planting Initiative at Kimana Wetland

Wednesday, 12th June 2024

WRA joined the Ministry of Water, Sanitation, and Irrigation in a tree planting and growing exercise at Kimana Wetland in Kajiado County.

The WRA Loitoktok Sub-basin office led the initiative at Oloile Primary School, where 500 students actively participated, fostering community involvement and environmental education.

Eng. Tito Mwamati, Chief Executive Officer of Tana Athi Water Works Development Agency (TWWDA), represented the Cabinet Secretary, Mr. Zachariah Njeru, EGH, at the event.

WRA donated 1,000 tree seedlings, contributing to the total of over 8,500 tree seedlings planted by various ministry agencies. These agencies included the Water Sector Trust Fund, Athi Water Works Development Agency, and National Water Harvesting Authority. Other participants in the initiative included the Kenya Forest Service, Ministry of Education, Interior Ministry, and Kajiado Members of County Assemblies (MCAs).

WRA is committed to advancing the government’s goal of planting 15 billion trees by 2032. Our ongoing efforts to promote tree planting aim to safeguard, protect, and restore our water sources. Trees are crucial for conserving water catchment areas and enhancing groundwater recharge.
